Snakes are predatory carnivores that eat a variety of pests like insects (i.e. crickets and roaches), fish, mice, amphibians, other reptiles, and birds. Birds eat termites, and occasionally small snakes. Snakes slither on the ground as they try to evade the birds. Slithering is their mode of transportation.

Snake repellent is NOT completely effective though. Snake For example snake repellent was found to be effective against Copperheads 87% of the time and against Cottonmouths and Water Moccasins (the most aggressive venomous snake) only 21% of the time. The most used way to eliminate a snake is a shovel to sever the head, because the only better method is a shotgun, which is illegal in most of society. The cottonmouth is the only poisonous water snake in North America. Unfortunately, it is hard to tell water moccasins from other kinds of harmless water snakes. Cottonmouths are usually brown, green or black with light yellowish colored bellies. Their colors tend to become duller as they age.

There are over 2,500 different species of these reptiles. Most of them are non-venomous and are just creepy and annoying. Venomous snakes are classified into two categories: Cobras and Vipers. Cobras include mamba snakes, coral snakes, and king cobras. Vipers include copperheads, water moccasins (also known as cottonmouths), and rattlesnakes. Most snakes will not attack humans unless they are interfered with. Killing them with a shovel by severing their head from their body is the most popular method. IF YOU ATTEMPT TO MESS WITH ANY SNAKE, BE AWARE YOU MAY GET BIT. IF YOU ARE BIT, seek medical attention immediately. Most people do not die from snake venom, however, if you don't take it seriously, you could lose a limb or your life.
Some of the most dangerous snakes to humans are Copperheads, Rattlesnakes, Black Mamba, Taipan, King Cobras, Puff Adders, Cottonmouth or Water Moccasins. Many snake bites do not result in death, but in necrosis. Necrosis is the premature death of living tissue and cells like in the picture below. Spider bites can also cause necrosis.
There are many types of snakes across North Carolina. There are six kinds of venomous snakes and 23 kinds of non-venomous snakes in North Carolina. Only kinds of venomous snakes are found in Raleigh. They are the copperhead and cottonmouth, also called water moccasin. Both snakes can easily be confused with non-venomous snakes. The copperhead looks very similar to a corn snake. Below is a corn snake followed by a copperhead. The corn snake also has much lighter shades of orange and can be confused with a copperhead. Notice the copperhead's pattern is more HOURGLASS LIKE and the corn snakes pattern is RINGS.

Snakes as well as many other pests can many times be easily dealt without an exterminator.

Lastly, what is a Carolina white snake? Well, a Carolina white snake is a slang term used by many rednecks in the area. We will not go into details, but the Carolina white snake leaves a lot to the imagination, and it is rumored that its bite is deadly!
