Ants are easy to eliminate. AMDRO®, a bait system works the best. AMDRO is designed specifically for exterior/outdoor ants, and we have used it for many types of ant colonies. There are many kinds of ants. In North Carolina the most common are fire ants, carpenter ants, and house ants. In fact there are more than 12,000 species of ants!! AMDRO has worked for us for every kind of ant we have ever come across in our lives. It is believed that Ants evolved from wasp-like ancestors around 120  million years ago. Nests are built by many ants, but other species are nomadic and do not build nests. Most nests can be found in the ground, under stones, and inside logs.

Fire ants are part of a group of stinging ants. There are just under 300 species of these stinging ants in the world. Fire ants live in a colony and produces large mounds. Fire ants eat small plants, seeds, and sometimes crickets. Fire ants will attack and kill small animals. They will attack humans as well. Humans experience a painful sting that causes a burning sensation. This is why they are called "fire" ants. Amazingly, believe it or not, bites can be deadly to some people.

Fire ants live in the ground in dirt. They are recognizable by their large round mounds they build, as seen in this photo.

Ants live in colonies like termites. The colony can have up to thousands of ants in it with a single or multiple queen.

 

Believe it or not, there are also ants called meat ants! And guess what they eat, meat. They eat dead animal carcasses and can only be found in Austrailia.

Most pests can many times be easily dealt without an exterminator. If you still need someone to kill your ants, try someone that specializes in killing ants.
